Oscilloscopes

April 2013 – Introduction of Oscilloscopes. Oscilloscopes are used to observe the change of an electrical signal over time. Such that voltage and time describe a shape which is continuously graphed against a calibrated scale. The observed waveform can be analyzed for such properties as amplitude, frequency, rise time, time interval, distortion and others. Modern digital instruments may calculate and display these properties directly. Originally, calculation of these values required manually measuring the waveform against the scales built into the screen of the instrument.

Rockwell Standards Tester

August 2013 – Introduction of Rockwell Standards Tester. The Rockwell scale is a hardness scale based on indentation hardness of a material. The Rockwell test determines the hardness by measuring the depth of penetration of an indenter under a large load compared to the penetration made by a preload. There are different scales, denoted by a single letter, that use different loads or indenters. The result is a dimensionless number noted as HRA, where A is the scale letter.

When testing metals, indentation hardness correlates linearly with strength. This important relation permits economically important nondestructive testing of bulk metal deliveries with lightweight and even portable equipment. such as hand held Rockwell hardness testers.
