Autogroup NewsThe Right-Hand-Drive Chevrolet Suburban, Engineered by Autogroup International

A world-class, seven-seat American SUV reimagined for Australia, Southeast Asia and Africa

After three decades building and exporting right-hand-drive American vehicles, Autogroup International is proud to introduce the Chevrolet Suburban in factory-finish right-hand drive. This is not a compromise conversion. It is a ground-up re-engineering program that preserves the Suburban’s core strengths: cavernous three-row comfort, long-distance refinement and confident capability, capped by a maximum braked towing capacity of 3,628kg.

Our Suburban program reflects why more families, executives and fleet operators across Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Africa and central Africa are choosing Autogroup International’s right hand drive full-size American SUVs. They want genuine space for up to seven adults, abundant luggage volume for real life, and the assurance of proven body-on-frame durability. With Autogroup International, you also get choice. We work with every client to configure the exact vehicle they want, from LT to High Country, with the 5.3L V8, the 6.2L V8 or the latest 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel, plus the factory options that make a difference on long journeys. From signed order to keys-in-hand, typical delivery timing is around six months.

What defines a Suburban in right-hand drive

The Suburban has been the benchmark for full-size family SUVs for generations because it does three things exceptionally well: it carries people in comfort, it carries everything they travel with, and it does both over long distances with ease. Our right-hand-drive program keeps those virtues intact.

Spacious SUV interior with three rows of seats

Genuine space in all three rows

Adults fit in every row, and kids are spoiled. The second row can be optioned with two individual captain’s chairs that leave a generous walk-through to the third row. The third row itself is adult- usable, with a low floor and roof-mounted vents to keep the whole cabin comfortable.

Massive, usable cargo volume

With all three rows up you still have about 1,175 litres of space behind the third row, enough for roughly six to eight large 90 to 120 litre checked suitcases or a mix of prams, golf bags and carry-ons depending on shapes. Fold the third row and you open up about 2,660 litres, typically room for a dozen full-size suitcases plus soft bags. Drop rows two and three and the Suburban offers about 4,090 litres for bulky loads, bikes, boards or remote-work kit.

Refined, long-range cruising

Independent rear suspension, available Magnetic Ride Control dampers and optional Air Ride Adaptive Suspension combine to keep this large SUV composed over patchy bitumen and corrugated country roads. The cabin is quiet, the driving position is commanding, and the big 17.7 inch touchscreen puts navigation and media front and centre without fuss.  The right hand drive Chevrolet Suburban from Autogroup International is the ideal family SUV for Australia, India, Africa and beyond.

Capability when it counts

Every right-hand-drive Suburban we build retains a maximum braked towing capacity of 3,628kg, along with the trailering tech, chassis cooling and robust hardware you expect from a body-on-frame Chevrolet.

Powertrains that suit how and where you drive

We help you choose the engine that best fits your use case, then build your right-hand-drive Suburban to that exact specification.  The 3.0L diesel engine is ideal for countries like Australia where long distance trips and towing boats or caravans is a daily occurrence whilst the 6.2L petrol V8 remains a popular choice across Asia and Africa.

3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel inline-six

For owners who live on the highway or tow regularly, the latest Duramax delivers effortless torque and standout range. At 3.0 litres it produces 305 hp and 495 lb-ft, with indicative consumption around 11.7 L/100 km in the city and 9.0 L/100 km on the highway based on pre-refresh figures for this engine family. Expect relaxed cruising and fewer fuel stops on long hauls.

5.3L V8 petrol

If you value the classic V8 character and plan a mix of urban and regional driving without heavy trailers, the 5.3L’s broad powerband and proven reliability make it a superb all-rounder. Reference consumption for this engine family is about 17.1 L/100 km city and 12.6 L/100 km highway in comparable US-specification Suburbans

6.2L V8 petrol

For customers who prioritise maximum petrol V8 performance, the 6.2L delivers 420 hp and 460 lb- ft with a confident surge for overtakes, mountain passes and higher-speed touring. Typical combined consumption guidance for similar configurations is approximately 14.7 L/100 km.

All three engines pair with a smooth 10-speed automatic and available four-wheel drive. Our team will talk through your routes, payloads and towing plans and recommend the most appropriate powertrain for your needs.

Trims explained - which trim is for you?

LT

The value-rich gateway to Suburban ownership, LT includes the new 17.7 inch Google-built-in infotainment system, 11 inch digital cluster, tri-zone climate and key active safety features. It is the ideal foundation if you want to pair the essentials with carefully chosen factory options.

RST

RST brings a sportier look with blacked-out exterior accents and available large-diameter wheels, plus real-leather seating and a premium audio upgrade. It suits buyers who want a sharper street presence without sacrificing long-haul comfort.

Z71

Engineered for light off-road use, Z71 adds a higher-clearance front fascia, underbody protection and all-terrain tyres, with available Air Ride and Magnetic Ride Control for supple control on rougher tracks. If your travels include gravel, station roads or snow, Z71 is the purpose-built variant.

Premier

Premier moves into luxury territory with additional driver assistance, heated and ventilated front seats, more extensive cabin trim and available head-up display. It is the sweet spot for customers who plan to put serious kilometres under the wheels without stepping to the very top trim.

High Country

The flagship specification layers premium materials, authentic wood trim and the 6.2L V8 as standard, with available 24 inch wheels and all the chassis tech. Choose High Country when you want the most refined expression of a right-hand-drive Suburban.

As with every project we undertake, we build to order. You select the trim, engine, exterior colour and factory options, and we engineer and manufacture the right-hand-drive components to match.

Factory options that elevate your Suburban

A full-size SUV rewards thoughtful specification. Popular options we regularly integrate include:
  • Air Ride Adaptive Suspension for automatic ride-height changes that ease loading and improve highway aero.
  • Magnetic Ride Control for rapid-response damping that calms rough surfaces without dulling control.
  • Head-Up Display up to 15 inches, keeping speed, nav prompts and driver-assist info in your eyeline.
  • Bose premium audio for long-haul listening and clear hands-free calls.
  • Rear seat media with high-resolution screens, HDMI inputs and Bluetooth headphones to keep passengers engaged on cross-country days.
  • Panoramic sunroof to brighten the cabin from row one to row two.
  • Power sliding centre console with hidden stowage and a re-sited wireless charger ahead of the cupholders.
  • Second-row captain’s chairs with a generous walk-through to the third row, or an available bench for eight-seat versatility.
  • 360 degree HD Surround Vision with hitch guidance to simplify tight parking and trailer hook-ups.
  • Flip-up rear glass and hands-free power tailgate for quick access to the boot when you are fully loaded.
If you have specialist requirements, from cargo management to communications equipment, our in-house engineering and component manufacturing teams can tailor the solution while preserving OEM-grade fit and finish.

How we build it ISO-certified engineering, localised for your market

Autogroup International is not a typical conversion shop. We are Australia’s leading right-hand-drive engineering, design, automotive component manufacturing and conversion company, backed by more than 30 years of programs and over 5,000 vehicles delivered worldwide. More than 250 specialists work across our global operations to deliver:

  • Digital-first engineering using OEM-grade CAD, simulation and validation to mirror the left-hand architecture in right-hand form.
  • In-house component manufacture, from injection-moulded dashboards and bezels to cast brackets and harnesses, so materials, textures and tolerances match OEM quality.
  • Structural and safety integrity, with engineering that maintains crash structures, airbag geometry, steering column energy management and HVAC performance.
  • Market-specific compliance, so your Suburban arrives ready for registration and use in Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Africa, Uganda, Kenya, Zimbabwe and beyond.

This is the same engineering backbone that supports our right-hand-drive programs for GMC Yukon XL, Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Bronco, Dodge Durango and Hummer EV SUV. The Suburban benefits from every lesson we have learned building thousands of premium American SUVs for right-hand markets.

Your build, your timeline, your country

Every client journey begins with a detailed specification session. Together we lock down trim, engine, exterior and interior colours, second-row seating layout, wheel packages and factory options. We then manufacture the right-hand-drive components and complete the conversion to our ISO-certified process.

From order to delivery is typically around six months. For Australia we work hand in glove with Autogroup International in Australia to manage retail handover, service setup and our market-leading warranty support. In Southeast Asia and Africa we coordinate with our regional teams and partners to ensure the same seamless experience from first call to first road trip.
